Nurse License Application
When applying to Texas Board of Nursing (TBON) for your nursing license, a criminal background check is ALWAYS required to be licensed to practice as a nurse in Texas. Nursing students must submit a Nursing License Application to TBON to receive authorization to test. The Nursing Jurisprudence Examination (NJE) and Pearson Vue (PV) registration MUST be completed BEFORE you can receive your Authorization to Test (ATT).
Arrests and Sitting for Your Exams
An arrest that occurred prior to, or during nursing school will not automatically bar you from sitting for the exam. However, you may need a professional license attorney (TBON lawyer) to assist with the application, or to petition the Board to allow you to sit for the exam. Arrests can cause problems with your application and put you at risk for being denied. If you are applying and you know you have an arrest on your record, you need to consult a TxBON lawyer to assist you.
